Web Fed Test Notes are experimental test notes printed by the Bureau of Printing and Engraving (BEP) for three series 1988A, 1993, 1995. These notes were printed on the Alexander Hamilton Web Press from May 1992 until November 1996. It was an experiment with the goal of speeding up the production of $1 Federal Reserve Notes but technical difficulties and poor production rates lead to a short life. The press was expected to print 1.8 billion notes annually but its final output total was only 309,120,000 notes in four and one half years.
The most difficult and most sought after notes are the 1988A BL and F star Webs. The Standard Handbook of $1 Web-Fed Test Notes-1988a, 1993, 1995 (second Edition) by Bob Kvederas Jr. & Bob Kvederas Sr. is available for direct purchase and was utilized as a grading guide and for informational purposes.

Due to the large number of notes on the website it is not feasible to have all the front and back plate scans of all the listed notes. Use the descriptions and scans posted below as an aid for determining their condition.
Grading Guide
Good (G) Note is heavily circulated. It can have strong multiple folds, creases, stains, and pin holes/staple holes. Corners are rounded and edges are rough. It can have a hole from excessive folding or have an ugly appearance.
Very Good (VG) Note is very circulated and well used but intact. Paper can be dirty with some staining and quite limp. Corners are rounded and the nate may have nicks and small tears whb ich can extend into the design. A small hole may be seen from excessive folding. No part of the note is missing.
Fine (F) A Circulated note. Note exhibits many folds, creases and wrinkles. Paper has some softness but is not too dirty. Edges show wear and handling. Can have minor tears in the border but not extending into the design. No holes although one or two staple holes could be found. Colors are clear but not brite.
Very Fine (VF) A nice note with medium handling and wear. Note exhibits a number of folds horizontally and vertically. Paper shows light dirt or color smudging and has some crispness and is not limp. No tears into the borders and the edges show slight wear.
Extremely Fine (XF) A nice looking note with light handling. It may have a maximum of three folds or one hard crease. Paper looks clean, bright and crisp. The corners show some rounding and the note may show slight edge wear at the point where a fold meet the edge.
About Uncirculated (AU) A near perfect note with minor handling. It may have bank counting folds at a corner or one light fold through the center. No hard folds or crease that has broken the surface of the paper. Over all the note is clean, bright and the corners are note rounded.
Choice Uncirculated (ChCu) A new note. Clean and firm paper. Corners are sharp and square with nice centering but margins are not congruent. An original note.
Gem Uncirculated (GemCu) Note has even margins all around with good registration on both front and back. Looks fresh out of a BEP Brick. A very attractive exceptional note.
